【摘要】:Thistestmethodisusedtodeterminethedensityofcohesionlesssoilusedintheconstructionofearthembankmentsandroadfills,orofcohesionlesssoilsusedforstructurebackfill,beddingandbackfillforpipe,orfilters.Thistestmethodisusedasthebasisforacceptanceofsoilscompactedtoaspecifieddensityortoaspecifiedrelativedensity.Thistestmethodmaybeusefulindeterminingthedensityofcohesionlesssoilsinaconfinedorlimitedspacesincethistestmethodrequireslessworkingareathanothermethods.Apredeterminedcalibrationequationisnecessarytousethisprocedure(seeAnnexA1).Itisassumedthereisalinearrelationshipbetweenthedensityinplaceandthemassofdrysoilperinchoftestholemeasuredbythesleevemethod.Thismaynotbetrueforcertainsoilsorthelinearrelationshipmayexistonlyforaparticularrangeofdensities.Thequalityoftheresultsproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors:PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thistestmethodcoversthedeterminationofthedensityofsoilinplacebythesleevemethod.1.2Thesleevemethodofdeterminingthedensityofsoilinplaceisusedforcohesionless,granularsoilsforwhichothermethodsofdeterminingthedensity(sandcone,testpit,andthelike)maynotbepractical.Typically,thesleevemethodisapplicableforsoilsthatarepredominantlyfinegravelsize,withamaximumof5%fines,andamaximumparticlesizeofx00BE;in.(19.0mm).Note18212;Therehavebeenothermethodsdevelopedfortestingcohesionlesssoils.Comparedtoothermethods,thisprocedureisconvenientforfieldconstructioncontroltestingbecausesmallerandlighterequipmentisusedandthetestcanbeperformedinasmallerarea.1.3Acalibrationequationisnecessaryintheapplicationofthistestmethodtoobtainareliablevalueofthein-placedensityofthesoil(seeAnnexA1).Thecalibrationequationisusedtocalculatethedensityofthesoilinplacefromthemassofdrysoilperinchoftestholemeasuredbythesleevemethod.1.3.1Thecalibrationequationispredeterminedforaparticularsoiltypethatistobetested.Whenthesoilchangessignificantlyineithergradationorparticleangularity,thecalibrationequationmayhavetobeadjustedorredefinedbeforethesleevemethodcanbeused.1.3.2Theremaybecertainsoilsmeetingthegeneraldescriptionin1.2forwhichacalibrationequationmaynotbeappropriateduetounsatisfactorycorrelationofthedata.Thesleevemethodwouldnotbeapplicableforthesesoils.1.3.3Theremaybecertainsoilsmeetingthedescriptionin1.2forwhichthecalibrationequationmaybeapplicableonlyforacertainrangeofdensities.Thesleevemethodwillgivereliablevaluesofthedensityinplaceonlywithinthatrangeofdensities.1.4Thistestmethodusesinch-poundunitswithSIrationalizedunits;thatis,acombinedstandard.1.4.1ThevaluesstatedineitherSIunitsorinch-poundunitsaretoberegardedseparatelyasstandard.Thevaluesstatedineachsystemmaynotbeexactequivalents;therefore,eachsystemshallbeusedindependentlyoftheother.Combiningvaluesfromthetwosystemsmayresult......
